Balayage highlights are painted onto the hair by hand, while traditional highlights are woven into foil.
Our colourists sweep lightener through the pieces that would naturally catch the sun, so the colour starts soft near the root and gets brighter towards the ends.
There's no line where the colour starts, so balayage hair grows out gently. Some people want a few soft pieces around the face, and others want lived-in blonde all through.

Highlights (foils) are sections of lightened hair woven from the root for a brighter, more uniform blonde. Balayage is a freehand colour technique that paints colour onto the hair for a soft, sun-kissed, grown-out effect with a softer regrowth line. Both are available at Hair Machine. Your colourist will recommend the best option at your consultation.
